Polaroid and MoMA are celebrating instant photography through cultural icons

A tribute to creative visionaries whose bold ideas redefined how we see the world. This collaboration celebrates the spirit of artistic expression. Featuring film with 12 unique and vibrant frames, paired with the Polaroid Now Generation 3, imagined in a striking bold blue design

Today, Polaroid and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) unveil a new collaboration that brings the two brands together to celebrate creativity, design, and the legacy of instant photography. Polaroid and MoMA share a deep-rooted commitment to cultural impact and creative exploration. While MoMA connects people from around the world to the art of our time, Polaroid has long empowered creators from renowned pop pioneers of the past to a new generation of boundary-pushing visionaries to shape culture by framing and capturing the world through their own lens. Together, this collaboration honors that shared vision: championing bold artistic expression and design innovation, while inspiring the next wave of artists, designers, and dreamers.

Complete with three interchangeable straps for a playful color-blocking effect, this USB-C rechargeable camera is compatible with i-Type film, offering a full-sized Polaroid experience with a contemporary twist. Each limited-edition i-Type Film - MoMA Edition pack features 8 of 12 designed frames marked with the MoMA logo or quotes from artists in MoMA’s collection, including An-My Lê, Betye Saar, Carmen Herrera, Meret Oppenheim, Milton Glaser, and Vincent van Gogh. This series captures the ethos of those who dared to see the world differently and invites today’s creatives to do the same. Among the featured artist quotes:

You are no longer the same after experiencing art. Milton Glaser
If one truly loves nature, one finds beauty everywhere. Vincent van Gogh
You can make art out of anything. Betye Saar

This series captures the ethos of artists who challenged convention and invites today’s creatives to do the same, one instant at a time.

Polaroid has long held a place at the intersection of art and technology. Edwin Land’s pioneering invention of the instant format sparked creative freedom for artists like Andy Warhol, Nancy Burson, Ansel Adams and Robert Frank. We’re thrilled that with the MoMA edition camera and film, photographers have the chance to imbue their work with the wisdom of MoMA collection artists and capture moments in time that express their creativity in bold new ways. Robin Sayetta, Head of Business Development, The Museum of Modern Art.

Available from May 20th on Polaroid.com, MoMA Design Store locations and online at store.moma.org, as well as select Polaroid retailers.

About Polaroid

Polaroid was founded in 1937 by Edwin Land as an icon of innovation and engineering. The company’s launch of the Polaroid Land camera in 1947, which marked the genesis of instant photography, and subsequent introduction of the breakthrough Polaroid SX-70 camera in 1972 and many others, would firmly cement Polaroid’s standing as a technological pioneer and cultural phenomenon during its peak. However, at the turn of the century, the company would be faced with new realities surrounding digital technology’s swift rise and ceased the production of instant film in 2008. But that was short-lived; a dedicated group of instant photography fans would save the last Polaroid factory in the Netherlands under the name ‘The Impossible Project,’ paving way for the eventual rebirth of the original ‘Polaroid’ brand in the years following.

Today, Polaroid is in pursuit of unlocking the beauty in everyday life with instant photography tools that empower creators across the globe to capture meaningful moments. With recent introductions like the world’s smallest instant camera, the Polaroid Go camera, and the world’s first instant camera with built-in manual controls, the Polaroid I-2 camera, the company that we have come to know and love for over 80 years is rooted back in the spirit of analog innovation for the modern age.
